Just before the 2022 Luna crash — what if you had bought then?
In early April 2022, crypto had been sliding for months from its late-2021 highs. On April 1, Bitcoin closed at $46,296, Ether at $3,456, and Solana at $134.55 on Coinbase.
Then May brought a bigger shock. Terra’s algorithmic stablecoin UST lost its peg and collapsed between May 9 and 13, 2022, and its sister token LUNA was essentially wiped out. The fallout dragged the whole market lower: Bitcoin fell to around $15,760 by November 21 (about −66% from April 1), Ether to $993.64 by June 18 (about −71%), and Solana to $9.64 by late December (about −93%).
Buying on April 1 would have meant riding that drawdown down first. The table below shows the April 1 close alongside a later 2025 level. LUNA itself was delisted after the collapse, so it is not included here. This page recalls past facts and is not investment advice.
