The 2021 Bitcoin peak — what if you had bought then?

On November 8, 2021, Bitcoin closed at $67,555 on Coinbase, near the top of that bull cycle. Ether closed at $4,812 and Solana at $248.42 the same day.

Buying that day meant a hard road. Through 2022 Bitcoin fell about 76% to around $16,530 by year-end; Ether dropped about 79% to $993.64 by June 18, 2022; and Solana fell about 96% to $9.64 by late December. The Terra/Luna collapse (May 2022) and the FTX failure (November 2022) drove much of that decline.

Recovery took years and varied by coin. By late 2025, Bitcoin had far surpassed that day’s price (about $123,343 by Oct 8) and Solana had edged back above it (about $262 by Jan 18), while Ether was still below its 2021 peak-day close (about $4,686 by Oct 6). This page recalls what buying the top actually felt like, in numbers. It is not investment advice.
